Why Do We like Herman Cain? (ContributorNetwork)

COMMENTARY | Last week's Republican presidential debate, sponsored by Fox News and Google, pulled in 6.1 million viewers, according to Nielsen. That's more than the CNN/Tea Party debate on Sept 12, and the NBC-Politico debate which aired on MSNBC Sept. 7. Herman Cain was the victor, walking away with 37 percent of Florida's straw poll vote leaving Rick Perry a distant second place at 15 percent and Mitt Romney in third place at 14 percent.

Why did Herman Cain do so much better in this debate than Mitt Romney and Rick Perry combined? He spoke eloquently and succinctly about what matters most to the American people. He didn't become sidetracked into defending his views and poking jabs at his fellow candidates. He relied on his own personal stories and experience and proposed intelligent solutions for the economy and jobs creation. Herman Cain won because he was a breath of fresh air. As the only person on the stage without a political background, he connected with the audience in ways that the others couldn't. When asked a question, he actually answered it. Instead of the typical song and dance routine that we usually get, Cain didn't stumble once.

His strong background in business and mathematics has helped him devise a common sense approach to our current economic dilemma that people can understand. His simplification of our current tax system is refreshing and appealing to both business leaders and the general population who are tired of a tax code that is so full of bureaucratic loopholes and nonsense that nobody is really sure anymore who pays what. Many of us are so afraid of making mistakes, we hire tax preparers who take half of any refund that is due to us.

So, the choice was simple. Either Romney and Perry who spent more time on stage playing political football with each other than talking about issues or Cain. You decide.
