It has been a long time since we last heard some news about Guild Wars 2. What's the state of Guild Wars 2? What is ArenaNet busy working on recently? All you can find in the new update post written by Game Designer Jon Peters who gives us an inside look at several aspects of gameplay, including the new Engineer toolkit system, the redesign of Ranger pets and the cool cross-profession combos.

Guild Wars 2

To start off, the tool kit, the engineers' exclusive profession mechanic has been improved. "When we initially talked about the engineer, only some of the heal and utility skills had corresponding tool belt skills, but as we spent more time with this profession-especially testing for the gamescom demo-we started imagining a much cooler version of the engineer's tool belt, where every slotted heal/utility skill had a tool belt counterpart." Jon Peters said. The updated tool belt system adds 23 new skills for engineers.

If you love ranger, you must be concerned about their intimate pet partner. Rangers now have a total of two terrestrial and two aquatic pet slots (amphibious pets can occupy either slot type). Player can swap pets quickly when a pet is downed or a new type pet is need in the dynamic combat. Players will have more control over their pets.

Pets no longer evolve but their levels match to the character levels. Each pet belongs to a species and each species belongs to a family. Pets will have their family skills according to animal type - bears, drakes, felines, and so on.

As for the cross-profession combos, Jon Peters gave us some new information and details about this fresh system. Each cross-profession combo has two important elements; the initiator and the finisher.

Here Jon Peters brought some examples to better explain the system, "Use Ricochet through a Firewall to get a bouncing axe that has a chance to burn the targets it hits. Leaping Death Blossom through a Symbol of Faith will remove conditions from allies near your target. Stomp inside a Smoke Screen to cloak nearby allies." There are much more combos waiting for players to unearth.
