CAGLIARI, Sardinia (AP) -Davide Ballardini has been hired as Cagliari's third coach this season following Roberto Donadoni and Massimo Ficcadenti.
The Sardinian club made the announcement Wednesday on its website without providing contract details.
The move comes after Ficcadenti was fired late Tuesday in a surprise move, considering that the small club is 10th in the 20-team Serie A.
Cagliari president Massimo Cellino had already fired Donadoni in August and replaced him with Ficcadenti before the season began.
Ballardini previously coached Cagliari at the start of the 2005-06 season before being fired, and again in the second half of the 2007-08 season, helping the club avoid relegation.
He has also coached Palermo, Lazio and Genoa.
