The Canajoharie varsity swimming team raised about $1,100 on Friday, Jan. 6.
Team members swam in honor of someone who has died from or survived cancer and before the meet against Albany Academy, the team hung posters around the pool representing who they were swimming for. They also wore pink caps.
?That is a lot of money for one meet. The kids did very well and worked very hard," said Canajoharie Swim Coach Phil Horender on the district?s website. ?Both sides of our stands were full. It was double for what we usually see.?
Half the proceeds will go towards breast cancer funds while the other half will go to the Kathleen ?K.C.? Smith Congdon Scholarship Fund.
A similar event will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at the high school. The boys basketball team will play Fort Plain at 6 p.m. There will be no admission but donations will be accepted.
